How to set up a email campaign using Mailshake

Mailshake is a very good email marketing tool. The deliverability is good and I like the way you can have a brief snap shot of how each campaign is performing.

1. click on the red plus sign in lower left corner

This will bring up a paper airplane button and clicking on that will start a new campaign for you.

Use the drop-downs to fill in each of the boxes. This allows you to have multiple options depending on who is sending out the campaign and what email you want the campaign to originate from.

Next, fill out the lead catcher drop down. This allows you to setup rules based on when your prospect responds.

2. Prospects

Finally, click on the red button that says prospects.

Download your prospects into the app by using one of the options above. I use a CSV file to keep track of all my prospects, this makes it easy to add them to any campaign I choose.

Next review your prospects to make sure that all the email addresses are formatted correctly. This will prevent bounces and will help protect your email campaign.

3. Sequence

This is where you create a sequence of emails to send to your prospects. Click on the red button that says sequence and this will bring up the option to either create a new sequence or import a sequence from a previous campaign.

I am going to click on the new sequence tab.

this brings up a email template that you can begin filling in.

You can create as many emails as you would like based on how long your campaign will be. Depending on the goals of my campaign I like to send out a minimum of five emails before I will assume that the timing is not right for that prospect. I have set up campaigns that are a year long with an email going out every month. And some of my campaigns are only one email that may be a promotion or some type of information I want to share with the contact list.

In each of the areas highlighted I had a column on my spreadsheet filled out that exact information. This allows you to personalize each email to get the best response possible. You can have as little or as many as you want. When doing cold outreach sometimes all I would have personalized is the name section and the body of the email would be the same for all my cold outreach.

Once you have created your first email message it will bring you to a screen that lets you manage your sequence.

  • Follow-up: Follow-ups are stopped once a prospect becomes a lead
  • Drip: Drips are always sent, even when the prospect becomes a lead (you do have to be careful with this one, if a prospect responds asking to be taken off the mailing list you need to go in manually and remove them, where with a follow-up campaign it will automatically stop when they respond)
  • On-click: On-click emails are sent when a prospect clicks a specific link in any message or your campaign. These emails are not sent once a prospect becomes a lead.
  • From Template: This allows you to choose a previous template that you already created.

4. Personalize

Personalize allows you to preview each of your emails to make sure the formatting is correct. I go through each one to make sure there are no errors like a misspelling of the name and all the personalization is correct.

5. Confirm

Once you hit the confirm button it will bring you to a screen that gives you an overview of your campaign.

  •  Campaign Title
  • Who it is assigned to
  • What mail account you are sending from
  • What actions a prospect must take to become a lead
  • Tracking that is set up
  • First send
  • Sequence: how many messages are you sending and what is the schedule
  • How many prospects do you have in this campaign (verify that it is the correct number).

Once you have verified all the information go ahead and start the campaign by hitting the (start campaign button).

conclusion

Mailshake is a very powerful email cold outreach tool. When I was doing a lot of prospecting and cold outreach I always liked how the email campaign was running in the background sending out emails and prospecting for me.

I didn’t feel as guilty as when I took calls and did sales presentations because I knew that with email could still hit the daily outreach goals I set for myself.

I would recommend that you get started with an email cold outreach tool and see if it helps you connect to more prospects.
